What I saw….

A rainbow over the mountains in the lush green fields full of purple and yellow flowers blooming and swaying in the fresh crisp morning breeze. Its a lovely day to go for hiking, Lina’s friends joined her for their hiking adventure. They were all packed for a day trip to the most beautiful Kalalau trail. The Kalalau Trail is an 11 mile trail that leads from Ke’e Beach to Kalalau Beach along the Na Pali Coast on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.

Lina and her four friends Calianu, Peter, Racheal, and Rose had reached Kauai island last night and spent a restful night so they were ready for their dream hike. The Kalalau Trail is the only land access to this part of the rugged coast. The trail traverses 5 breathtakingly beautiful valleys before ending at Kalalau Beach where it is blocked by sheer, fluted pali. The 11-mile trail is graded but almost never level as it crosses above high sea cliffs and through beautiful green valleys.  At the beaches of Hanakapi’ai and Kalalau the trail drops to sea level. You can hike all the way to Hanakapi’ai and up to Hanakapi’ai Falls as a day hike without a permit.

They had recently graduated high school and wanted to spend a day outdoors together before everyone departs for their college to different parts of the world. This was the perfect weekend to be outdoors and luckily the whole group was there.

The group of 5 friends boarded the coaster at 6:00 am in the morning, This way they will reach the head of the trail around 6:30. The Kalalau Trail is 11 miles one way, and although it starts and ends at a beach, it climbs and descends a total of 5,000 feet in elevation as it snakes its way along the coast, in and up one cove and down and out another.

The first two miles of the hike are the most popular. There’s a pretty little place for a picnic, Hanakapiai Beach, It is the most scenic part of the trail with vantage points in both directions. This two hour hike was the most enjoyable part of their journey and they decided to stay there for at least half an hour, took some slefies and pictures. Lina was lost in the beautiful surroundings and realised that this place had been the back drop for a almost a dozen of Hollywood movies, no doubt this place is a part of heaven and she had already planned her wedding at this trail. She was day dreaming about the beautiful green background harbouring four roman style pillars decorated with white and peach flowers, a victorian style white frame with peach sheer drapes……. Lina, Lina are you ok? Rachel got a little worried and screamed at Lina! and then she realised that her wedding is too far away in future and started laughing hysterically.

They set off for the next part of their journey ………………………….
